COVID-19 Response

SLUSA worked quickly to modify service and offer alternative solutions to ensure the continuation of vital interpreting services for the deaf/hard of hearing and limited English community. Now more than ever, it is important that all individuals have access to communication regardless of the language they use. While SLUSA still provides in person interpreters for any client that requests it, we also now offer the following:

SLUSA has created it’s “Virtual Video Interpreting” option which now allows our clients to provide SLUSA with an invite link to their Tele-medicine appointments, video conference meetings (using Zoom, Google Meets, Webex, or whatever platform you do business in), and online classroom instruction (Using Blackboard or other online instructional platform).

Not every Tele-medicine and online classroom support inviting a third party (the interpreter) into the appointment. Not every client has access to these solutions as well. No worries! SLUSA will be happy to provide you with a link to meet our interpreters in our online room for your meetings or appointments.

All current clients with a service agreement for in person interpreting are now eligible to request interpreters virtually. The same pricing and policies for service will apply to virtual interpreters. Our online request forms have been updated to reflect an option for virtual interpreters for both ASL and foreign language. The request form provides the option for you to include a link to your appointment or request that SLUSA provide you with a link to share with your appointment participants.

SLUSA provides technical support to all of our customers available any time to ensure smooth connection with virtual interpreters.

Note that virtual interpreting is different than our video remote interpreting option as this service requires pre-scheduling and is not “on-demand”. Virtual interpreting is meant as an alternative solution to in person interpreters.
